The Original Political Don Da Da

With the presidential election some 57 days away, or 56, or 55 depending on which day you read this post, it’s only fitting to pay homage to Shirley Chisholm, the original don da da.

Before Barack and Hillary shattered glass ceilings up the whazoo, there was Shirley “Unbought and Unbossed” Chisholm – a first-generation Caribbean American. Her mother was from Barbados; her father from Guyana.

Some background on Chisholm in case you’re unfamiliar – and I’m totally wagging my finger at you if you are – Chisholm was the first black woman elected to the United States Congress. She ran for president in 1972. Check out this clip and beam with pride. – MJ
